This year's award from the Division of Quantum Information of the American Physical Society recognised the quality and significance of the doctoral research carried out by ETH Zurich alumnus Dr Nathan Lacroix, who completed his PhD in the group of Professor Andreas Wallraff.

This year's prize from the Micius Quantum Foundation celebrates quantum simulation in optical lattices, a field which Esslinger and his group in the Department of Physics have been spearheading from the very beginning.

Three polymechanics apprentices at ETH Zurich have manufactured appliances for physics research equipment as part of their final project, gaining them full marks. Their custom-made apparatus help improve the measurement of magnetic fields.
